While some including me questioned not only how Chris Hughton was treated, but the appointment of Alan Pardew.

How wrong can you be? Sitting 4th in the Barclays Premier League undefeated can’t be bad.

When Newcastle lost Andy Carrol to Liverpool amongst others and with little in the signs of reinvestment in the squad you would have been forgiven in thinking the future looked bleak. Indeed in many “pundits” books Newcastle were amongst the  favorites for the drop.

Pardew has worked wonders with a relatively young squad, with a couple of experienced pros thrown in. One of the players to impress has been Shola Amiobi who has taken the mantle that was laid down. Not thought as as one of the Leagues big hitters Amiobi’s goals have propelled the club into the position they find themselves. What has also happened is the players have bonded and seem to have become a team rather than a group of individuals like so many other clubs.

Many fans who are currently enjoying their lofty status will be wondering how long this form can continue. But while other teams continue to faulter I see no reason why the Magpies can’t at least challenge for the top 6 finish.

For once maybe Mike Ashley will be praised for doing something right…Then again!
