The Russians are calling

On my way home tonight I was listening to TalkSport and it appears that they have had confirmation from a high FA source confirming that England Manager Fabio Capello was wanted by Russian megga rich club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Lets be honest this must be the opportunity the FA have been waiting for, as according to Sam Matterface the presenter of tonights show Mr Capello was out of the country and WAS considering the offer. The timing of this could not have come at a better time for the FA with Capello’s contract, which he has said he won’t be renewing due to end after next years European Championships. With this being the case many people have wondered if now England have qualified for the tournament that now maybe the ideal time for the FA to breath new life into the squad and bring in a new man to take the team into the Championships next summer in Poland and Ukraine.

The rumour is that Capello would take up the post immediately and would therefore leave the FA to bring in their new man going forward. I wonder if the FA would be brave and speak to Mr Capello and say to him that they wouldn’t mind him taking up the post now and even if they must pay his contract through the summer. Many England fans would think this a good move due to the lacklustre performances recently and also the drab showing at last years World Cup in South Africa.

The front runner and possibly the only man, Martin O’Neil aside, in the frame for the job is Harry Redknapp. Redknapp seems to be liked among most of the professionals in the game and also doesn’t seem frightened of making the tough decisions and doing right for his team just like keeping Luca Modric at Spurs this summer when Chelsea came knocking. He also seems to be able to play the media game and even when he’s had his run ins with the press this hasn’t worried him and he’s carried on. We all know that the England job carries massive amounts of pressure and media scrutiny so by all accounts Redknapp looks like the ideal candidate.

We shall see over the next couple of days if this goes anywhere but in my own opinion I wouldn’t mind seeing Capello leave but as for Harry coming in I’m not sure because I can’t see Tottenham letting him go at the moment and a part time boss in the lead up to a major championships is not the ideal preparation.  I for one though look forward to see how this pans out.

Who would you like to see in charge of the England team heading into next summers European Championships leave your ideas below.
